MHS AP Chemistry
Titration Contest

The purpose of this lab is to "standardize" a base solution.  I have prepared a solution of sodium hydroxide with a concentration of between 0.05 and 0.15 Molar, but I do not know it's exact concentration.

You will standardize this solution against KHP.  KHP stands for "Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate" (the P does not stand for phosphorus).  The formula for this compound can be found on it's stock bottle, and the procedure for standardization can be found in your lab book.

In addition to the usual grade based on format and precision and calculations and results, there are bonus points available.  They will be added into your point totals before calculating your term grade.  Bonus points are available for the following:

  1. The group with the smallest average deviation among their own results.
  2. The group with the smallest deviation from the average of every trial in the class.

Details will be addressed in class.
